Eye exams
A comprehensive eye exam
An exam checks how well you see and how healthy your eyes are. If you wear contacts or want to, the fitting is a separate step that follows it.
What the doctor looks at
How clearly you see, with and without correction
How your eyes focus and work together
The front and the back of each eye
Eye pressure
Anything you have noticed about your vision

At the visit
What happens, in order
- 01
Step 1: History and measurements
An assistant asks about your eyes, your glasses and lenses, and your week, then takes first measurements.
- 02
Step 2: The exam
The doctor tests your vision and examines your eyes. About 30 minutes.
- 03
Step 3: Your results
The doctor explains what was found and what to do next, in plain words.
- 04
Step 4: Glasses or lenses
You leave with your prescription. If you want contact lenses, we book the fitting.
Before you come
How often, and what to bring
How often
Many adults come every year or two. The doctor sets the schedule for you at your visit, based on your eyes and your health.
What to bring
Your current glasses and lenses, your vision plan and medical insurance cards, a photo ID, and a list of the medicines you take.
Questions
Eye exam questions
Do I need an exam if I see fine?
Yes. An exam checks eye health as well as vision, and some changes don't cause symptoms at first.
Is the exam billed to my vision plan?
A routine exam usually is. If the doctor looks into an eye problem, that part is billed to medical insurance. How fees work explains both.
Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?
Yes. Your prescription is yours, and we give you a copy.

Choose a time that works, and add a contact lens fitting if you want one.
