Contact lens fittings
A toric lens is made for astigmatism. It has different powers in different directions, and it is shaped to stay in position when you blink.
People who have been told they have astigmatism
Soft lens wearers whose vision shifts when they blink
Anyone who wants contacts instead of glasses for sport
People whose last pair never felt quite right

At the visit
About 45 minutes. We measure both the curve of your eye and the astigmatism in your prescription.
The doctor picks a design and puts a trial lens on your eye, then watches how it settles after a few minutes.
You wear the pair through a normal week. Note whether your vision shifts when you look down at a screen or turn your head.
The doctor checks that each lens still sits where it should and adjusts the lens if it doesn't. A second round is common.
Results vary. Some toric fittings take a second or third trial pair.
Before you come
The exam goes to the plan that pays for it, and the fitting, the trial pair and the lenses are quoted separately. The front desk checks your benefits before the visit and gives you a written estimate if you pay yourself.
How fees workYour current glasses and any contact lenses, with the cases. Your vision plan and medical insurance cards. A photo ID. A note on when your vision seems to shift.
